Backyard is the best place for practicing and improving photography. A lot of professional bird photographers sit in backyard for hours, days or even weeks to get the perfect bird photographs. Being bird watcher, it will be an advantage for new photographer over professional photographers.
Advanced camera equipments play a great role in capturing amazing photos which is the reason professional photographers spend thousands of dollars on these equipments. Even with little investment, one can capture great images. Here are a few tips for backyard bird photography.
1. Spring is the best time of the year for bird photography. In this season one will get an opportunity to capture birds that one wouldn't normally see in their backyard.
2. Early in the morning after three hours of sun; this is the best time as birds are most active in early hours of the morning. At this time sun is not at full strength which gives nice light to capture photos. Also consider shooting two hours before sunset which is the best time for perfect lighting conditions.
3. Best camera for bird photography is digital DSLR with at least 300mm zoom. Camera gears also play an important role in capturing good shots. Tripod should be used to keep camera steady.
4. For bird photography, camera with fast shutter speed should be used to avoid motion blur and to freeze action. A fast aperture setting allows one to keep away from background that is surrounding the subject.
5. Provide food, water and shelter to attract birds to one's yard. To lure them to stay, one should provide a secure place to raise the little ones.
6. Setting up camera right in front of a window that will keep a watch on the backyard birds constantly.
7. One can get shots of birds flying off from the feeder by pre focusing just off the feeder and setting shutter speed and opening manually.
