Tomas Eriksson Photography - Fine art landscape photography
Statement
I am a mainly self taught photographer from the city of Gävle in Sweden. I became interested in photography when my father taught me to use his Canon Canonet in the early eighties. I was soon fully into this mysterious world and I bought my own analogue camera system a couple of years later.
Because of different circumstances I had a break from my beloved hobby for several years but in 2004 I talked to a dear friend of mine (
Albin Bogren) who worked as a professional photographer in Gävle. He taught me the basics in camera technique from scratch and he has been my source of guidance ever since, but I had to find my own way of doing photography and today I am confident in my way of using the camera as well as the digital darkroom as tools for showing expressions of feelings, moods and thoughts.
In 2004 I did not hesitate to jump on the digital train and I have been true to the technique ever since.
I mainly do my work in black and white and I consider my self as a fine art landscape photographer. I often use the waterscape as motive in my photos, as a citizen of Gävle I have lived near the coast line all my life and that has influenced my photographical work. I also like the urban surroundings and in all my work I like to express a calm, mainly abstract and if possible surrealistic feeling. I have always been influenced of abstract art and I always try to remove items instead of adding them when I look thru the view finder. The challenge is to present a work that is not boring and prosaic but yet displays a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
I do a lot of my work in low light conditions, I like to be on place when the first light of the day arrives or when the last light leaves us. My technique often includes long exposures and I prefer when the weather contains dark skies, strong winds and mist.
All my photos can be bought as fine art prints in limited editions. Please feel free to contact me if you want to know more about my work.
